Jan Doense studied international law at the University of Amsterdam and film at the Netherlands Film Academy, the New York Film Academy and the Binger Film Lab in Amsterdam. In 2015 he took part in the renowned producers' workshop of EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs). For his work in the Dutch film world, he was made a Knight in the Order of Orange Nassau in 2008.

Jan started his career in film as a journalist for Skoop and de Filmkrant. From 1984 to 2007 he organized the annual Imagine Film Festival, formerly known as The Weekend of Terror and the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival. He was also the initiator of The Night of Bad Taste, The All-Night Horror Show and the Halloween Horror Show.

 

In 2001, Jan wrote and directed the short film R.I.P., "a zombie movie for the whole family" starring Manouk van der Meulen and Huub van der Lubbe. This was the first short film to receive the Platinum Film industry award for more than 250,000 spectators in Dutch cinemas. In 2004, Jan directed the short science fiction film FAR AWAY, starring Victor Löw and Huub van der Lubbe and in 2011 produced and directed the short NOISE, starring Mirjam de Rooij and Victor Löw. 2019 saw the release of CHEESEHEAD BLUES RE-CUT, a feature length documentary about the delta blues scene of Clarksdale, Mississippi

which Jan produced and directed.

Herman Slagter studied law at the Erasmus University Rotterdam.In 2002 he started Riverpark Films and produced and directed his first short film KATVANGERS, starring Herman den Blijker, Jules Deelder and John Buysman. A year later Herman produced FIGHTING FISH, the first ever Dutch martial arts film with, starring Kim Ho Kim and Chantal Janzen. The film premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and was released theatrically in Dutch cinemas by UIP. In 2009 Herman co-produced the Irish film SENSATION, starring Domhnall Gleeson. SENSATION received rave reviews and was selected for many international film festivals including the IFFR, TIFF (Toronto), the BFI London Film Festival and the Galway Film Fleadh.

In 2012 Herman produced Richard “FRANKENSTEIN’S ARMY” Raaphorst’s 30-minute film THE ROCKETEER, which was again selected for the IFFR and the BFI London Film Festival. In the same year Herman produced the feature length documentary THE ONPLAATSBAREN directed by René Hazekamp, ​​which was nominated as Best Dutch Documentary at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) and was selected for Locarno International Film Festival.

Herman followed many post-graduate training courses for producers, including the Binger Film Lab, EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs) ECAFIC (European Certificate in Audiovisual Financing and Commercialisation), Digital Strategies & Distribution and Legal and Financial Aspects of Co-Production at the Erich Pommer Film Institute.
